About Us
Ackerman Sports & Fitness Center is an 88,000 square-foot multi-purpose facility. The facility includes a 40-yard by 60-yard multi-purpose field with special turf for sports; three high-school-size basketball courts with wood floors; two 30-foot climbing rocks; batting cages; an elevated, multi-lane walking/running/jogging track; a 7,000 square foot fitness center; multipurpose rooms for fitness classes, locker rooms and meeting rooms.
Ackerman Sports & Fitness Center is owned and operated by the Glen Ellyn Park District. Established in 1919, the park districts’ mission is “driven to foster diverse, community based leisure opportunities, through a harmonious blend of quality recreation programs, facilities and open space which will enhance the quality of life into the future.”
Glen Ellyn Park District serves 35,000 residents in Glen Ellyn, unincorporated Glen Ellyn, Wheaton, Carol Stream, Lombard and Glendale Heights. The park district owns and maintains 30 parks and facilities and offers cultural, athletic and general interest programs and special events for its residents, from infants through senior citizens.
